1. Overview

WP Power Analytics is a fully self-hosted WordPress analytics plugin. Every visitor, pageview, and report is stored in your own WordPress database — nothing is sent to a third-party analytics service. This means:

Beyond core analytics, the plugin includes bot detection, IP/country spam protection, and Safeguard Displayads — a feature that automatically withholds ad scripts from visitors showing invalid-traffic behavior (sudden spikes, 100% bounce rate, repeated single-page visits), protecting your ad revenue and CPC without blocking real readers.

2. Requirements

3. Installation

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  2. Choose the plugin zip file and click Install Now.
  3. Click Activate.
  4. A new WP Power Analytics menu appears in the left-hand admin sidebar.
  5. Tracking starts automatically on activation — no extra setup is required for Free features.
  6. To unlock PRO features, go to WP Power Analytics → Activate Pro and enter your license key.

Upgrading: replace the plugin files with the new version and reactivate if prompted. Your analytics data lives in the database and is never affected by a plugin file upgrade.

4. Getting Started

After activation:

  1. Visit a few pages on your site (in a private/incognito window, since logged-in admins aren't tracked) to generate some sample data.
  2. Open WP Power Analytics → Dashboard to see your first pageviews appear.
  3. Open WP Power Analytics → Real-Time to watch live visitors as they browse.
  4. Go to Settings to set your analytics timezone, email recipients, and (optionally) email delivery method.
  5. If you plan to run ads, review Safeguard Displayads (PRO) — start it in Monitor Only mode first so you can see what it would block before it blocks anything for real.

5. Core Analytics (Free)

Dashboard

An overview of your site's traffic: pageviews, sessions, bounce rate, and trend charts for a selected date range.

Real-Time

A live feed of visitors currently on your site, updating without a page reload.

Pages

Your top-performing pages/posts by pageviews, with time-on-page and bounce data.

Referrers

Where your traffic comes from — search engines, social platforms, and other referring sites.

Devices

Breakdown by device type (desktop/mobile/tablet), browser, and operating system.

Geography

Visitor breakdown by country (and city, where available).

Campaigns

Automatic UTM parameter tracking (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign) for measuring marketing campaigns.

Category Dominator

Shows which content categories are driving the most traffic.

Alerts Log

A running log of every automated alert the plugin has generated (traffic spikes, site-down events, IP blocks, Safeguard blocks/releases), independent of whether email notifications are enabled.

Bot Detection

Every pageview is checked against known bot signatures (Googlebot, Bingbot, AhrefsBot, SemrushBot, and others) and tagged accordingly, so your human-traffic numbers aren't inflated by crawlers. The full Bot Stats breakdown page is a PRO feature; bot tagging itself is available on Free.

6. Advanced Reporting (PRO)

Growth & Loss

Shows which pages are trending up or down in traffic over a chosen period, so you can spot content that's losing relevance or gaining momentum.

Non-Performing Posts

Surfaces posts/pages with little or no traffic — useful for content pruning, updating, or redirecting.

Visitor Pathway

A full journey timeline for individual visitor sessions: every page visited, in order, with time spent on each and total session duration.

Bot Stats (full page)

A dedicated breakdown of bot/crawler traffic by bot name, with volume and trend over time.

7. Spam Protection (PRO)

Located under WP Power Analytics → Spam Protection.

8. Safeguard Displayads (PRO)

Located under WP Power Analytics → Safeguard Displayads. This feature protects your ad revenue by detecting invalid-traffic visitors and automatically withholding ad scripts from them for a limited time — never blocking the visitor from the page itself, only the ads.

How detection works

A visitor is flagged when they trip one or more of the following, based on your thresholds:

You can require any one rule to trigger a block, or all enabled rules.

What happens when a visitor is blocked

Blocked Ad Scripts list

Add the specific ad scripts you want covered — by domain, script URL, publisher ID, or by pasting the ad network's <script> tag directly (the plugin extracts what to match). Each entry has its own ON/OFF switch. Popular networks (AdSense, Google Ad Manager, Taboola, Outbrain, Amazon Ads, and more) are available as one-click presets.

Test Blocking

Before relying on Safeguard in production, use the built-in test tools:

Email notifications

Optionally receive an email when a visitor is blocked and another when they're released, with an adjustable cap on notifications per hour to avoid inbox flooding during a traffic surge.

Recommended rollout

  1. Enable Monitor Only mode first — nothing is blocked, but you can see what would be flagged.
  2. Review the Alerts Log for a few days and tune your thresholds.
  3. Switch off Monitor Only once you're confident in the settings.

9. AI Analysis (PRO)

Located under WP Power Analytics → AI Analysis. Uses the Claude API to analyze your traffic and content trends, surfacing insights that raw numbers alone don't show — such as which topics are gaining traction or which trending searches align with your content.

Requires a Claude API key, entered under AI Analysis settings. API usage is billed by Anthropic separately from your WP Power Analytics license.

10. Email Delivery & Alerts

Located under Settings → Email Delivery.

Delivery methods

Fallback

If your chosen method fails, the plugin can automatically try the others (SMTP → PHP mail() → WordPress default), so alerts don't silently stop arriving. Every attempt is recorded in a delivery log.

Testing

Use Save & send a test email to verify one method, or Save & test all three methods to see which one actually works on your server — each result shows the exact error and a plain-English explanation if it fails.

What gets emailed

Recipients and which alerts are active are configured under Settings → Email Notifications.

11. Settings Reference

Located under WP Power Analytics → Settings.
